Card Payment
There are two ways that our customers use card payment with Register EPOS. These are either non-integrated card payment or integrated card payment.
Non-Integrated Card Payment
In a non-integrated card payment set up, Register does not automatically pass the amount to be paid to the card machine and it is manually entered on the card payment terminal.
- Amount to be tendered is shown on Register screen
- Card Payment is chosen on Register
- Amount to be tendered is manually entered on card machine
- Card payment is taken
- Clerk confirms card payment is taken on Register screen
- Clerk completes transaction as normal
This disadvantage of non-integrated is that the amount needs to be entered on the card machine and this is open to error and takes time. The steps of the card payment are also not shown on the register screen.
The advantage of non-integrated is that you can use any standalone card payment terminal. You can start with non-integrated if you are in contract with your present provider and then move to an integrated set up when the contract ends. This is common when Register is installed at an existing store.
Integrated Card Payment
With an Integrated card payment set up, Register and the payment terminal communicate together. The amount to be tendered is automatically passed to the card terminal.
- Amount to be tendered is shown on Register screen
- Card Payment is chosen on Register
- Amount to be tendered is automatically sent to the card machine
- Card payment is taken and update messages shown on register during the process.
- Register automatically knows the payment was successful or not.
- Clerk completes transaction as normal
The advantages of this method are that there are no entry errors on the terminal and it is fast to complete. Register also stores a some of the card transaction details such that the specific card payment can be linked to the customer purchase.
The only consideration of integrated payment is that you need use on the supported payment partners. They support a variety of terminals and most if not all acquirers between them. These are always being added to.
