About Smart Volution

Smart Volution, has been delivering innovative retail focused software for over 13 years. Utilizing our experience with large retailers we designed Register EPOS to provide a modern, cost-effective EPOS solution for smaller retailers across multiple vertical markets. We provide innovation, experience and maturity to this market.

We turn complex solutions into products, sold as a service, which enable smaller retailers to gain the same benefits that large retailers with much larger budgets attain from technology. Our on-going mission is to continually provide top tier retail functionality applicable to all businesses, large and small.

Modern Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) is not just about executing payment, managing inventory and keeping records. It’s about business management and providing a point of customer service. Register is a modern, simple to use, cost effective, and innovative EPOS application for any business.

Meet The Team

Justin Coward
Justin CowardChief Executive Officer
Previous to Smart Volution Justin was MD Verifone – Global Bay Mobile Retail systems Europe where he ran the international business of Verifone Global Bay. Justin started his career with 8 years at Hewlett Packard in wide range of positions from technical consulting to sales management. This provided good grounding in a breadth of technologies and their application to business. He moved to Manhattan, New York with HP in 1994, returning to the UK in 2002.
Justin oversees all strategy, sales and operations. Justin is a well-respected industry leader in the fields of software, mobility, retail and payments. He has co-presented many times with the likes of Apple, Motorola and Samsung. Outside of work, Justin is a keen mountain biker; squash player, gym goer and Jet Skier.
Tony Smith
Tony SmithChief Operations Officer
Prior to becoming COO at Smart Volution, Tony was a Senior Mobility Consultant for Verifone / Global Bay EMEA. Over 10 years’ experience in delivering mobile solutions to independent businesses to nationwide institutions. Tony has been involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle including Pre-Sales, Requirements Gathering, Design, Specification, Project Management, Deployment, Support and Account Management.
Tony works closely with Justin to execute his visions and help the company grow assisting in Product Conceptualisation, Sales, Marketing, Business Development and Business Operations. Outside of work Tony enjoys socialising, is a keen car and motor sport enthusiast, amateur photographer and when time allows volunteer falconer flying various birds of prey in the Devon countryside.
Tim Pope
Tim PopeChief Technology Officer
Before leading Smart Volution’s technical strategy and core technologies Tim was a Senior Software Design Engineer for Verifone – Global Bay Mobile Retail systems Europe where he designed and implemented several key solutions during his tenure including an iOS application providing a generic interface to many payment solutions and architecting the first UK deployment of their MPOS solution. His experience in a number of technical roles has given him a solid understanding of payments and retail systems as well as the myriad of technologies that these systems can benefit from. In his spare time Tim enjoys shooting, tinkering with personal hardware/software projects, mountain biking, climbing, and photography.
Matt Rossetti
Matt RossettiChief Design Officer
With over 9 years experience in mobile design, solution delivery and project management, Matt is now the Chief Product & Design Officer at Smart Volution. Before this he spent 5 years at Verifone – Global Bay Mobile Retail systems Europe, working closely with customers to understand critical requirements and closely manage a number of key UK first MPOS deployments. During this time Matt gained a wealth of experience delivering and managing all mobile solutions. When not in the office Matt is a car enthusiast helping to run a countywide car club, a keen amateur photographer and socialiser.
Steve Pope
Steve PopeProduct Manager
Steve has worked in payment technology for Schlumberger Technologies, Axalto, Gemalto and Verifone since the late 1990s. Initially developing communication libraries for US card payment applications, he then joined a UK team developing a Chip & PIN solution using APACS40 & APACS 30/50. Additionally he developed applications for ePurse, eTop and Transax. Steve then took over the role of maintaining and developing a Web Application used by a UK bank to manage their estate of payment terminals. Steve’s interests include photography, reading and fell walking with his family in the Lake District.
David Oxnam
David OxnamMarketing Director
David brings over 20 years experience in the technology sector and has been working with Justin since 2002 during their time together at OpenAir. David heads our marketing and PR department helping with content and market research / insight. Twenty years ago David set up the Clear Group a Marketing Communications company, which initially specialised in technology companies. Over the last twenty years David has worked for and had senior roles in Martin Dawes telecommunications, Tenfore Sytems, AirFrame, OpenAir and Global Bay. David is a keen cyclist and tennis player and enjoys socialising and travel.
