David Duddles and his partners took over The Navigation in Newark in April 2017. The Navigation is in part of a warehouse conversion in the town on the river Trent and hosts live music events and has catering facilities for their customers.

Up and Running

The first challenge for the team on taking over was to refurbish and work out a recipe to make The Navigation profitable. This involved trying different lines of drinks and engaging with new suppliers. The team recognised right from the start that the old standalone till which they inherited would not be fit for purpose for the new enterprise. David says “At the time when you are trying to get everything done to get up and running, a scientific approach to evaluating a new EPOS system did not quite happen.” The Navigation found Register by word of mouth, via the local Rugby Club that told them the Register EPOS product from Smart Volution was what they needed.

In Business

The revamped Navigation has now been up and running for the last 18 months and during that time they have installed an additional Register terminal to help cope with the growth of the business.

David goes on to say “As my partners and I are not on site all the time, it is great being able to log on remotely onto the back end reporting and see what daily sales are looking like.

Our next goal, before the Christmas rush is to start using the stock system, which we had not got round to as in the early days we kept switching stock lines until we found what the customers wanted.

David has been delighted with the ease of use of the Register system, with all their part time staff picking up how to use it very quickly.

Justin Coward CEO of Smart Volution the company behind the Register EPOS product said “It’s great that Register has been part of the success story of The Navigation. We wish the team luck for future growth and look forward to them placing an order for their 3rd Register system!”
