Barbers Box

Barbers Box operates from a salon in Chester. A number of years ago Robin Langley identified a new niche in the market and Barbers Box was the first licenced barbers in the UK.

THE ISSUES

Robin the MD was drowning in paper having abandoned a previous attempt to use a POS based system. Robin had been on a management course and he quickly identified that he needed to sort out a decent POS system. This would give him the time to run the business, rather than ploughing through paperwork every day. The business was originally set up 12 years ago so Robin had a comprehensive understanding of what a POS system needed to do.

PRACTICALITIES

The first key issue was that that it had to be easy for the staff to use, especially as they were in different locations without ‘hands on’ access to support. The other bug bare of their previous system which is partly why they abandoned it, was that every sale had to be booked in as an appointment, which was very clumsy for the staff. Given that they are a barbers, they get a lot of walk in traffic, which can now be easily handled on their Register EPOS. Daily cashing up with a paper based system was a real pain , but this can be easily done as an ‘end of day’ job and Robin has immediate access to the performance of each of the branches on a daily basis. Robin has found the web access to the back end reporting extremely useful as he could remotely keep an eye on his business when he was on a cycling holiday in Canada. Robin said “I am delighted we went with the Register solution as I now have time to focus on expanding the business, rather than keep up with the day to day chores.” Justin Coward from Smart Volution said “We are delighted that our Register solution is having a significant impact on Robin’s business and giving him the opportunity to focus on future developments.”
